Peter Kastenmüller

Peter Kastenmüller (* 1970 in Munich ) is a German theater director and artistic director. Since the 2013/14 season he has been director at the Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich .

After studying philosophy for a few semesters, Kastenmüller founded the independent theater group “Particular Order” and worked under Wolfgang Engel as an assistant at the Schauspiel Leipzig , then as in-house director at the Staatstheater Kassel .

This was followed by productions at the Staatstheater Hannover , the Münchner Kammerspiele , the Maxim Gorki Theater , the Schauspiel Frankfurt and the Theater Basel . In 2004 and 2006, together with Björn Bicker and Michael Graessner, he directed the city project “Bunnyhill” at the Münchner Kammerspiele, where he directed the projects “Illegal” (2008) and “Hauptschule der Freiheit” (2009). In the summer of 2010, Kastenmüller curated “X Schools” at the Hebbel am Ufer Theater in Berlin. In the 2010/11 season he arranged John Steinbeck's novel “ Jenseits von Eden ” at the Basel Theater; at the Freiburg Theater he worked again with Bicker and Graessner for the world premiere of the German-Turkish theater project “Cabinet. A German-Turkish bazaar »together (Theater Freiburg / Garajstanbul, Istanbul). With “Die Hofmeister”, an educational project in collaboration with the Rütli campus and the Maxim-Gorki-Theater, another work followed in the urban space. In 2011/12, Kastenmüller u. a. at the Hanover State Theater (“Deportation Cast” by Björn Bicker), at the Basel Theater (“The Seventh Seal” by Ingmar Bergmann) and one episode in the 24-hour marathon “Unendlicher Spass” at Hebbel am Ufer Berlin. In 2012/13 he worked as a director for the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (“Wunder des Alltags” by PeterLicht , invited to the Mülheimer Theatertage 2013) and the Staatstheater Stuttgart.

Since the 2013/14 season, Kastenmüller has headed the Theater Neumarkt Zurich. He staged a. a. “Rocco and his brothers”, “Jakobs Ross”, “Mr. Puntila and his servant Matti”, the school project “Schools of Normal”, “The cannibals / Philoctetes” and “Good People”. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season he directed “ Meister und Margarita ” based on the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov .
