Peter Klimanek

Peter Paul Valentin Klimanek (born May 21, 1935 in Lohnau ; † December 22, 2010 in Dresden ) was a German physicist.

Life

From 1954 to 1960 he studied at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , after which he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Metallurgy and Materials Testing at the Bergakademie Freiberg . In 1968 he became lecturer for structure and microstructure analysis in the physical metal science department . In 1969 he received his doctorate.

In 1992 he defended his habilitation thesis. In the same year he was appointed professor for structure and microstructure analysis at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

From 1990 until his retirement in 2001 he was deputy director of the Metallkunde Institute.

In 2001 the German Society for Materials Science made him an honorary member.

During his career, Peter Klimanek was (co-) author of around 300 publications, he supervised 34 dissertations and over 200 student papers.

His special scientific merit lies in the development and application of methods of diffraction of X-rays on severely disturbed crystals and on crystals with inhomogeneous microstructure.
