Peter Krapp

Peter Krapp (* 1970 ) is a German-American media and cultural scientist and translator; he teaches at the University of California, Irvine .

Life

Peter Krapp studied English, German, philosophy and musicology in Bonn, Stirling, Konstanz and Santa Barbara. He was a scholarship holder of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the DAAD as well as the DFG in the graduate college “Theory of Literature and Communication”. He received his PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a thesis on déjà-vu as a symptom of cultural memory in the media age. He taught at Bard College (New York) and the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) before becoming Professor of Media History at the Department of Film & Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine from 2004. There he was Department Chair from 2012–2019 and Senate President 2013–14, a founding member of the Center for Computer Games and Virtual Worlds and a member of the Advisory Board of the UCI eSport program.
