Löcherbach represents a transdisciplinary case management concept and refuses to place it in individual professions / disciplines. He developed an implementation system, created the first competence profile in 2002, played a key role in the development of the DGCC certification system for the training and further education of case managers and promotes the auditing of case management organizations in the DGCC (first audit in 2017).

He is co-editor of numerous basic works on the case management approach.

Social work science

Together with Ria Puhl, Löcherbach reflected on decades of preoccupation with social work and social work science in research and teaching in an invitation to social work. The special features of this profession, the ways of thinking and approaching social pedagogues and social workers are described as well as old and new activities and challenges. The professional group and its clients are presented in an internal and external perspective and current issues such as gender and interculturality are discussed. Again and again, amusing stories from colleagues from practice are interspersed as splintered thoughts.
