Peter Lachmann

Peter Lachmann , artist name Peter Piotr Lachmann (born October 21, 1935 in Gleiwitz , German Reich ) is a German-Polish poet, essayist, theater director and translator. Peter Lachmann grew up in a German family. She stayed in Upper Silesia until 1958 ( since 1945: Poland ). In the years 1956-1958 he studied chemistry at the Silesian Technical University in Gliwice, where he and a group of colleagues founded the student theater group. In 1958 he moved to West Germany, where he studied philosophy, German and theater studies. In 1985 he founded the video theater POZA with Jolanta Lothe.

His father Ewald Lachmann was a soccer player and played as a striker at Vorwärts-Rasensport Gleiwitz .

  1. According to the "Decree of November 10, 1945 on the change and definition of first and last names" Lachmann had to give up his "non-Polish sounding" first name. From now on he was officially called "Piotr Lachmann".
