Live and act

Peter Ludwig Bodden comes from a former Cologne patrician family and was the son of Johann Bodden (1606–1680), owner of Gut Hasselholz, and Katharina Samson from Maastricht , and brother of the mayor Theodor Bodden († 1683). He entered local politics, was elected to the city council and held the office of master builder there in 1681. Finally, one year after the death of his brother and his only election as mayor as a representative of the guilds in 1684/85, 1686/87, 1688/89, 1690/91, 1692/93 and 1694/95, he became the mayor of the city Aachen elected, with its co-ruling aldermen mayor Werner von Broich in the first three years of office and Werner von Broich in the last threeWilhelm Adolf von Eys . In 1710 his nephew Michael Bodden also held the office of mayor.

Bodden's death is not recorded in the sources; but it could have occurred shortly before or after the turn of the 18th century. Bodden was married to Anna Elisabeth Stouppart, who gave birth to six children, of whom his daughter Catharina later married the mayor Dietrich Joseph Speckhewer . For the family, he had made the Hasselholz estate, which he and his brother inherited from their late father, relevant as a shareholder in 1680 .

Wappenstein on the Long Tower

Peter Ludwig Bodden is still reminiscent of a memorial stone in the lintel of the Aachen Long Tower , on which the names of the mayors and builders from 1690 are engraved with coats of arms and inscriptions, during whose time in office the tower was significantly restored and expanded.
