Peter Märkli

Peter Märkli (born July 14, 1953 in Zurich ) is a Swiss architect and university professor .

Life

Märkli studied architecture between 1972 and 1977 at the ETH Zurich . During his studies, Peter Märkli met the architect Rudolf Olgiati and the sculptor Hans Josephsohn , whose sculptures adorn many of his later buildings. In 1978 Märkli founded his own office in Zurich. Märkli became known, among other things, for the design of the La Congiunta Museum in Giornico for Josephsohn. Märkli realized various residential buildings within Switzerland in his characteristic style, which often combines sculpturally broken or over-formed, but actually strict structures with an earthy color and material aesthetic that is typical for him. His better-known new buildings include an office building for the Novartis Campus in Basel and the Im Birch school complex in Zurich-Oerlikon. For the PWG Foundation he realized a highly acclaimed new building at the Zurich bakery, which in 2005 received the award for good buildings from the city of Zurich.

Teaching

From 2002 to 2015 he was a professor at the ETH Zurich . Since 2013 he has been visiting professor at the MARCH school of architecture in Moscow.
