Heinrich Tessenow Medal

The Heinrich Tessenow Medal is an architecture prize that has been awarded annually since 1963 in memory of Heinrich Tessenow . Until 2006 it was awarded by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS Hamburg at the suggestion of the Heinrich Tessenow Society. Since 2007 it has been awarded by the Heinrich Tessenow Society itself. In several years there were no awards.

Until 1994, the award ceremony took place within the framework of the Fritz Schumacher Foundation at the University of Hanover . Since 1996 this award has been presented several times in the Festspielhaus Dresden-Hellerau (architect: Tessenow). In 2009, the award ceremony took place in the Kulturforum Berlin in cooperation with the art library of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation , more recently in different locations (Hamburg, Berlin, Basel).

Up until 2004, the Tessenow Medal was linked to a one-year scholarship in the field of architecture and monument preservation of the 20th century. In recent years, travel grants have been given to students.
