Miller & Maranta

Miller & Maranta is a Swiss architecture firm based in Basel. It was founded by the architects Quintus Miller (* 1961, Aarau) and Paola Maranta (* 1959, Chur). During their architecture studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, in the design studio of Fabio Reinhart and Miroslav Šik, they came into contact with the analogue architecture influenced by Aldo Rossi . After various joint projects from 1989 onwards, the current office was founded in 1990. The works that have been built, such as the Voltaschulhaus Basel, the Färberplatz market hall in Aarau, the Schwarzpark residential building in Basel, the restoration and expansion of the Villa Garbald in Castasegna or the old hospice on the Gotthard Pass have been widely published and awarded. Jean-Luc von Aarburg has been a partner in the office since 2013.

Biographies

Quintus Miller obtained his architecture diploma at the ETH Zurich under Fabio Reinhart in 1987 and worked as a design assistant at the EPF Lausanne and the ETH Zurich between 1990 and 1994. After a visiting professorship at the EPF Lausanne from 2000 to 2001 and the Accademia di Architettura of the Università della Svizzera Italiana from 2007 to 2008, he was visiting professor at the ETH Zurich until 2010. Since 2009 he has been a full professor of architecture at the Accademia di Architettura of the Università della Svizzera italiana in Mendrisio. From 2004 to 2008, Quintus Miller was a member of the Lucerne City Planning Commission . He has been a member of the Monument Preservation Commission of the City of Zurich since 2005 and of the Monument Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt since 2011 .

Paola Maranta studied architecture at EPF Lausanne and ETH Zurich, where she graduated in 1986. After completing the Master of Business Administration course at IMD Lausanne, she was first a management consultant at McKinsey & Company from 1990 to 1994 , followed by the establishment of a joint architecture office in 1994. She was also visiting professor at the EPF Lausanne and the Accademia di Architettura of the Università della Svizzera Italiana as well as visiting professor at the ETH Zurich. Paola Maranta was a member of the townscape commission of the canton of Basel-Stadt from 2001 to 2005 and has been a member of the townscape commission of Riehen since 2003 .

Jean-Luc von Aarburg (* 1975, Liestal) studied architecture at EPF Lausanne, TU Delft and ETH Zurich, where he graduated in 2001 with a diploma. He has been with Miller & Maranta since 2001, as a member of the management team from 2007 and as a partner from 2013. In the academic year 2009-2010 he was co-lecturer at the visiting professor at Miller & Maranta at ETH Zurich.
