Theodor "Theo" Steinhauser (born May 9, 1922 in Ingolstadt ; † May 19, 2014 in Munich ) was a German architect who was mainly involved in church construction.

Life

Steinhauser grew up in Ingolstadt and studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich . Until 1955 he was assistant to Robert Vorhoelzer's chair and worked in his office on the reconstruction of the Technical University of Munich. In 1956 he founded an office as a freelance architect in Graefelfing . From 1979 to 1988 he was director of the technical department of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . In 1985 he was awarded the Heinrich Tessenow Medal , and in 1989 the Bavarian Monument Protection Medal .

The focus of his work was on church buildings, in particular the construction and renovation of churches and community halls. On the interior design, he worked with artists such as Karlheinz Hoffmann , Hubert Distler and Walther Senf . He was married to Lilo Steinhauser (born March 23, 1925 in Amberg; † 2010); his daughter Ulrike Steinhauser-Roller is also an architect and continues his office.
