Gertrud Züricher

Gertrud Züricher (born January 13, 1871 in Bern ; † August 13, 1956 there ; resident in Burgdorf ) was a Swiss artist and folklorist .

Life

Gertrud Züricher trained as a secondary teacher and drawing teacher at the Bern Art School. From 1896 to 1926 she was a teacher at the municipal girls' school in Bern and, in 1899, made silhouette postcards with subjects from the city of Bern.

In addition to her professional activity, Zurich devoted herself to botanical , folklore and historical studies. She created an extensive herbarium and compiled the dialectal plant names, collected Swiss nursery rhymes and, based on the research of her great-grandfather Carl Friedrich Ludwig Lohner , dealt with the history of the city of Thun and her ancestors on her mother's side.

Züricher was a supporter of the abstinence movement and president of the Bernese abstinent section of the Swiss Teachers' Association. She also campaigned for the introduction of women's suffrage .

Her estate is in the Bern Burger Library and in the archive of the Swiss Idiotikon .
