Kreuzkirche (Munich)
The Kreuzkirche is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Munich district of Schwabing-West .
building
The Kreuzkirche is an inconspicuous white-plastered concrete skeleton building with brick-filled walls on a hexagonal floor plan with narrow windows below the flat roof , a work by Theodor Steinhauser from 1968; it is set back slightly from the street front. A high Campanile in concrete , however, next to the church building is visible from afar.
The interior of the church presents itself as a high hall; the walls are clad with clinker bricks .
history
The parish of the Kreuzkirche emerged from a spin-off from St. Markus . In 1930, a wooden emergency church stood on the site of today's church. The parish of the Kreuzkirche has had this status since April 1, 1933. In July 1944 the wooden church was destroyed in a bomb attack. From 1946 the Kreuzkirche was housed in a barrack , a donation from Switzerland . A first permanent church was built in 1950 based on plans by Otto Bartning ; Bartning used the foundation walls of a school gym that was also burned out during the Second World War with its wooden roof construction . After the current church was built, the old church was converted into a parish hall with 250 seats; the artistic design comes from Hubert Distler . Since February 2009, the parish hall has been named after Albert Lempp , who campaigned for the foundation of the Kreuzkirche congregation before he became co-author of the Easter Message from Munich Laity , a courageous memorandum against the terror of National Socialist rule .
