From the subsequent discussion between the responsible organizers and speakers, the idea of an architecture prize for “New Building in the Alps” developed, which was first awarded in 1992 and finally endowed in 1999 with an amount of 20 million lire (today approx. 10,000 euros) has been. The aim of the award is to track down exemplary buildings and projects, on the one hand to promote contemporary building in the Alps and, on the other hand, to make modern architecture accessible to a broad public as an important cultural concern.
