Peter M. Jones

Peter M. Jones (* 1949 ) is a British historian and professor emeritus. His research focus is on French history.

Life

Jones studied from 1967 to 1970 at the University of Leeds , where he received a Bachelor of Arts . He then continued his studies at Balliol College of Oxford University continued and received his doctorate there with Richard Cobb with the dissertation The Revolutionary Committee of the Department of the Aveyron to D.Phil . In the course of his studies he received a scholarship from the French government from 1971 to 1972 and did research at the Université Toulouse II - Le Mirail .

Jones spent his later academic career at the University of Birmingham . There he has taught as a professor of French history since 1995.

Jones was visiting professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Marseille in 1999 and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris in 2011 .

He is also a member of the editorial board of the journal French History and the editorial board of the journal Annales du Midi . His book Industrial Enlightenment: Science, Technology and Culture in Birmingham and the West Midlands was awarded the 2009 Wadsworth Prize for Corporate History.
