Peter MacArthur is a Canadian diplomat .

Career

In 1982 MacArthur began working for the Canadian Department of External Affairs. From 1984 to 1987 he was Trade Commissioner in Moscow and from 1987 to 1988 in New Delhi . From 1988 to 1990 MacArthur was Consul of the Canadian Trade Office in Mumbai . Back in Canada, MacArthur worked from 1990 to 1992 as assistant director of trade relations with Russia . This was followed by the position of Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong from 1994 to 1997 and from 1997 to 1999 as Deputy Director for Policy and Strategic Planning. In 1999 MacArthur became Director of the Trade Commissioner Service overseas operations and in 2003 Director for China and Mongolia . In 2004 he went to the Embassy in Japan as Minister (commercial) and Senior Trade Commissioner , where he remained until his appointment as Director General for global business opportunities in 2009. In 2012 MacArthur became General Manager of the South and Southeast Asia and Oceania Office. At the same time, he represented Canada at meetings of senior economic officials for the Asia-Pacific Economic Community (APEC) and ASEAN .

In 2016 MacArthur was appointed Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia and East Timor . On October 4 , 2017 , he handed over his accreditation to the Indonesian President Joko Widodo and on June 30, 2017 to the East Timorese President Francisco Guterres .

Private

MacArthur is married with two children.
