Peter Marcuse

Peter Marcuse (born November 13, 1928 in Berlin ), son of Herbert Marcuse , was Professor of Urban Planning at Columbia University in New York from 1975 to 2003 .

He received his bachelor's degree from Harvard in 1948. In the following year he married Frances Bessler, who worked as an au pair with Franz and Inge Neumann, friends and colleagues of his father Herbert . In 1953, 1957 and 1965 the two had children Irene, Harold and Andrew. He had previously received a doctorate in law ( JD ) from Yale in 1952 . He earned a master's degree from Columbia in 1963, another master's degree from Yale in 1968, and a doctorate in urban planning from UC Berkeley in 1972 . He then taught at UCLA until 1975 .
