from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Mauley, 4th Baron Mauley (* around 1331; † 1383 ), was an English nobleman. He was a son of Peter Mauley, 3rd Baron Mauley and his wife Margaret Clifford. His father died in 1355, after which Mauley inherited his extensive estates in Yorkshire . However, he had to hand over considerable parts of the property to his mother as Wittum , who only died in 1382. As Baron Mauley , he was a member of Parliament several times .

During the Hundred Years War Mauley fought under the Black Prince in Gascony and in 1356 in the Battle of Poitiers . He then served in northern England. In his first marriage, before November 18, 1356, he married Elizabeth, the widow of John Darcy, 2nd Baron Darcy de Knayth and daughter and heiress of Nicholas Meinill, 1st Baron Meinill . After her death in 1368 he married Constance († 1401), the daughter and co- heir of Sir Thomas Sutton from Bransholme . Since his son Peter VII Mauley († between 1378 and 1383) had died before Mauley's death, his underage grandson Peter inherited his possessions. His widow Constance married Sir John Godard after his death .
