Peter Molt

Peter Molt (born September 11, 1929 in Stuttgart ) is a German historian and political scientist who is particularly known for his work in and on development cooperation and as an Africa expert.

Life

After graduating from high school at the humanistic Eberhard-Ludwig-Gymnasium in Stuttgart in 1949, Molt studied political science, sociology and history at the universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg. From 1952 to 1953 he studied at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (USA). In 1956 he received his doctorate for a thesis on the All-German People's Party (GVP). phil.

He was then a member of the Sternberger research group for research into German parties and parliaments, from 1955 also a speaker and lecturer for social education work at the Catholic Social Institute Heinrich-Pesch-Haus in Mannheim, 1960-1965 he alternated as head of the Political Academy Eichholz and from 1962–1966 he also headed the International Institute of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. 1966–1969 he was Managing Director of the German Development Service (DED), 1971–1975 Chief Official of the United Nations Volunteer Program (UNV), 1976–1981 UNDP Resident Representative, first in Togo, then in Burkina Faso, 1982–1992 Ministerial Officer for Development Aid Ministry of the Interior in Mainz and representative of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate for the Rhineland-Palatinate-Rwanda partnership. After that, Molt was chief executive of the aid organization CARE Germany until 1994 . He continues to serve as a board member for the organization.

In 2004 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his commitment in the field of development cooperation.

Molt is a member of the board of trustees of the Fridtjof Nansen Academy for political education at the Ingelheim training center .
