Peter Mponda (born September 4, 1981 ) is a Malawian football player who has been under contract with the Black Leopards in the South African National First Division , the second highest division in South Africa, since 2005 .

Career

society

Peter Mponda began his career in 1998 with the Bakili Bullets in Malawi. He ran in the following four seasons for the team from Blantyre in the TNM Super League , the highest Malawian division, and was able to develop into an important service provider. In 2002 he moved to Canada to the Ottawa Wizards in the Canadian Professional Soccer League . In 2004 he returned to Malawi for the Bakili Bullets and left his home country a year later to play in the Zimbabwean CBZ Premier Soccer League . After playing 31 games and scoring five goals in one season, he went to South Africa to join the Black Leopards . After he completed the first three years with the team in the Premier Soccer League , he had to relegate with the team to the National First Division after the 2007/08 season .

National team

The defender made his debut for the Malawian national soccer team in 2000 . During the qualification for the World Cup in 2002 , 2006 and 2010 , he completed a total of 30 international matches for Malawi, but could not qualify for a soccer World Cup. In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, he failed with the national team in the third qualifying round against Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Guinea. He was appointed to the squad of the Malawian national team for the 2010 African Cup of Nations, Malawi's first participation in the continental tournament since 1984. In the three group games against Algeria, Angola and Mali, he was used from the start and was able to play the full distance in all three games. Mponda failed with a record of one win and two losses with Malawi in the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
