Peter Muzeniek

Peter Muzeniek (* 1941 in Łódź , then Litzmannstadt) is a German graphic artist, illustrator and caricaturist.

Life

From 1945, Peter Muzeniek lived with his Latvian parents in Schwerin , Mecklenburg , where he graduated from high school in 1959 and then completed an apprenticeship as a letterpress and poster painter. After completing his military service, he moved to Berlin and began studying at the Leipzig School of Graphics and Book Art in 1965 , which he graduated with a diploma in 1970. He then worked as a freelance graphic artist, illustrator and caricaturist in Berlin .

In 1976 the satirical magazine Eulenspiegel published a work by Peter Muzeniek for the first time, and has been a permanent employee there since 1980. With his biting, gripping caricatures on current affairs, he helped countless satirical articles to become explosive and profiled an unmistakable cartoon style. Peter Muzeniek's work has received numerous awards, including the German Prize for Political Caricature .

Peter Muzeniek is also a sensitive, creative illustrator. To date, he has illustrated more than 70 books, works from world literature (Anton Chekhov, Victor Hugo, Jules Verne and others) as well as a number of children's books.

In addition to numerous personal exhibitions, he participated in national and international exhibitions and biennials. In 2018 the Kunsthalle Bahnhof Ahlbeck will be showing ninety of his works - original drawings and prints of his caricatures and illustrations.

Muzeniek lives in Berlin.

Some of his works are in the collections of the House of History Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany.
