Peter Neumann (bee researcher)

Peter Neumann (* 1968 in Berlin ) is a German zoologist , bee researcher and professor at the University of Bern .

Life

After his childhood and youth in Berlin, Neumann studied chemistry at the Technical University of Berlin , although as a child he was fascinated by social insects such as bees , wasps and ants . In 1989 he completed his bachelor's (then pre-diploma) in inorganic chemistry . He then switched to a degree in biology : Between 1989 and 1994, Neumann studied molecular ecology with Robin Moritz at the Free University of Berlin , specializing in bee genetics . This was followed by a doctorate in molecular ecology at the Technical University of Berlin and at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, again with a focus on bee genetics with Robin Moritz. After a research stay in South Africa , Neumann completed his habilitation in zoology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in 2004 . Neumann has been Professor of Bee Health at the University of Bern since 2013 . In the same year he also became President of the COLOSS network (prevention of honey bee COlony LOSSes).
