Peter Osypka

Peter Osypka (* 1934 in Mechtal, Upper Silesia , today Bytom , Silesian Voivodeship , Poland ) is a German entrepreneur, university professor and founder.

Career

Osypka studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and graduated with a doctorate in engineering. from. Shortly afterwards he was a co-founder of the first German society for biomedical technology . To deepen his studies, he went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester , Minnesota as a Post Doctoral Fellow . In 1977 he founded the Dr. Osypka GmbH Medical Technology (today: Osypka AG). It specializes in the development and manufacture of products for invasive cardiology and pediatric cardiac surgery. He is the inventor of the fixed screw in permanent pacemaker electrodes and the multiple helix principle that is used today in all implantable probes. In 1986 he developed high-frequency ablation for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and thus revolutionized the clinically invasive field of work in electrophysiology. In total, he received over 300 patents.

In 2011 he was appointed honorary professor at the Offenburg University for his pioneering work in the field of catheter ablation .

In 1997 he founded the non-profit Peter Osypka Foundation, which supports people in need around the world and promotes medical-scientific research, especially in the cardiovascular field. In 2012 he established the Peter-Osypka Institute for Pacing and Ablation at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences .
