Peter Overbeck

Peter Overbeck (* 1963 in Kiel ) is a German musicologist , music journalist , sound engineer and  university professor .

Life

Peter Overbeck is the son of Felicitas Overbeck and the physician Ludwig Overbeck . He grew up in Kiel and Singen (Hohentwiel) .

After studying music at the Detmold University of Music (graduate sound engineer 1990) and studying musicology at the Universities of Basel, Heidelberg and Paderborn ( PhD 1998), he worked as a sound engineer and music journalist a. a. for the Swiss radio DRS (Studio Basel), for the Südwestrundfunk and for various print media.

From 1998 to 2011 he was editor-in-chief and deputy director of the LernRadio institute at the Karlsruhe University of Music . In 2012 he was appointed to a professorship for tri-media production at the LernRadio institute at the Karlsruhe University of Music.

Since 2007 he has been chairman of the Handelgesellschaft Karlsruhe e. V., also member of the board of the international association Georg-Friedrich-Handel-Gesellschaft e. V. based in Halle / Saale and the International Handel Academy Karlsruhe e. V.

His academic interest is in the history of English music in the 18th century (especially Thomas Linley junior and Georg Friedrich Händel ). Further research areas are the history of phonograms and musical interpretation . Several publications in the field of music , radio and cultural journalism have appeared in recent years .
