Peter Panka (born March 3, 1948 in Hanover ; † June 28, 2007 in Wennigsen ) was a German rock musician and member of the rock group Jane .

Life

Peter Panka was already a professional musician at the age of 18. He began his career in 1966 as a singer for the rock group The JPs . Its members completely changed their instruments in 1970 and henceforth called themselves Jane .

From 1996 to 1999 and since 2002 the formation officially called itself Peter Panka's Jane .

Jane was one of the most successful so-called Krautrock bands in the mid-1970s . In Germany alone she sold over a million records and performed numerous tours (as far as New Zealand). Peter Panka has sat steadfastly on Jane's drums for 37 years and was affectionately called "Gonzo, the Krautrock rock" by the fans.

In the early 1980s Panka worked on the rock ballet Warlock by Jon Symon (text and music) and Lothar Höfgen (choreography) at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover, which was very successful and was performed as a guest performance across Germany.

Panka died of lung cancer at the age of 59 .
