Peter Paul Felner
Peter Paul Felner (born December 22, 1884 in Budapest , † beginning of October 1927 in Berlin ) was an Austrian film director , screenwriter and film producer .
Life
The son of the legal scholar Theodor Felner had attended the Realgymnasium in his native Budapest until the turn of the century before he moved with his parents to Vienna and began studying philosophy at the university there. Also in the first decade of the 20th century, Felner began to write novels ( Der Weg zur Ehe , Der Schattenmensch , Die Maskenburg ).
In 1911 Felner was appointed as a dramaturge at the Komödienhaus am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin . Immediately afterwards he began to work as a stage director and made his first contacts with film before the First World War , in which he served as an officer in the reserve. Felner began directing films under the pseudonym "Peter Paul" in Budapest and Vienna. With the Rexa film he owned his own production company. Back in Berlin in 1922, Peter Paul Felner continued his film career with much more ambitious, more expensive and prominent productions, including the historical and costume material The Count of Essex and the literary adaptation The Merchant of Venice . He made some of these films in his own production ( Peter-Paul-Felner-Film Co. , or Fefi for short ). In 1925 he stayed briefly in Paris without any cinematic activities taking place there.
Felner died of a heart attack while filming the unfinished film The Last Days of Tsar Nicholas .
