Peter Riedlinger

Peter Riedlinger (* around 1556 ; † 1635 in Esslingen am Neckar ) was a Württemberg painter who spent most of his life in Esslingen and created most of his works there.

Life

Peter Riedlinger worked as a painter's journeyman on the construction of the palace in Neuburg an der Donau from 1574 . In 1585 he came to Tübingen and - although he was by now certainly a respected painter - he continued to work as a journeyman. He wanted to settle in Tübingen as a town painter and submitted a recommendation from the Princely Court Councilor of Neuburg to Duke Ludwig von Württemberg . Since the application was rejected anyway, he went to the imperial city of Esslingen, where he was registered as a citizen and town painter in 1586.

There was no shortage of orders in Esslingen. In 1590 he was planned by Hans Steiner to work on the painting of the new Lusthaus in Stuttgart, where he was to take over the Stromberg Forest. He obviously took part in the planning work, because on July 2, 1590, together with other masters involved, he signed a petition regarding the payment for the hunting pieces. However, he was no longer involved in the execution work, as he apparently got an interesting assignment for him in Esslingen.

The altarpiece in the Dionysius Church in Esslingen deserves special mention among his few surviving works . In this church he later worked on other objects, such as B. at the pulpit. In 1611 he painted a Passion of Christ at Mettinger Tor as well as the coat of arms of the emperor and the city.
