Peter Josef Schaeven , born Peter Joseph Schäven (born November 1, 1885 in Cologne ; † July 4, 1958 there ) was a German politician of the Center Party and, after 1945, the CDU .

education and profession

Schaeven worked as a clerk after attending higher commercial school. From 1909 he worked full-time in the General Secretariat of the Windthorst Association. In addition, from 1911 he was secretary of the center for the Cologne-Land area and from 1914 to 1933 managing director of the party in Cologne. In addition, Schaeven was a city councilor from 1919 to 1933.

After the beginning of National Socialist rule , he lost all functions and remained without a position until 1945. After the end of the Second World War he temporarily headed the news office of the city of Cologne.

Schaeven was a co-founder of the Cologne CDU, party chairman and parliamentary group chairman of the CDU in Cologne from September 1945, he was a city councilor in the Cologne City Council from 1945 until his death - during a council meeting in Cologne City Hall on July 4, 1958 Years 1946 and 1947 Schaeven was a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . Afterwards he was directly elected member of the state parliament for a Cologne constituency for the first three electoral terms until his death. On July 12, 1958, the last day of the electoral term, Wilhelm Krampe, known as Bruges, took his place in parliament.

Schaeven had been married to Kunigunda Niebler since 1916. He died at the age of 72 in Cologne's town hall and was buried in the Melaten cemetery (hallway 64a). The grave has now been cleared. His gravestone has been a memorial stone on the grave of his son Heribert Schaeven in the cemetery in Cologne-Holweide since 2016.
