Peter Schienerl

Peter Wolfgang Schienerl (born December 17, 1940 in Vienna ; † April 3, 2001 in Munich ) was an ethnologist , art historian , author and collector of ethnographics .

Career

After studying art history, Schienenerl did his doctorate on Ethiopian church buildings. In the 1970s he moved to Cairo , where he created a documentation of traditional forms of jewelry on behalf of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In the sense of a style history, I was looking for references between the jewelry and antiquity.

At the end of the 1980s Schienerl moved to Munich, where he co-founded the Society of Friends of Islamic Art and Culture in 1989 .

Collections

Schienerl collected numerous amulets and other objects from the magical-religious context. His pieces are in the Weltmuseum Wien, the Ethnological Museum Berlin and the Museum für Völkerkunde Dresden, where his estate went.
