Peter Scholz (art historian)

Peter Scholz (born September 28, 1977 in Hagen ) is a German art historian and curator .

biography

Peter Scholz studied art history, English, Italian philology and Near Eastern archeology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the University of Birmingham and at the Free University of Berlin. There he mastered in 2007 under the supervision of Klaus Krüger and Werner Busch.

From 2007 to 2010 Scholz worked at the Art History Institute in Florence (Max Planck Institute) as a research assistant in the direction of Alessandro Nova. He then worked as a research assistant with his sub-project Dominance and Knowledge Culture. The visual identity construction under the rule of the Visconti and Sforza, 1300–1500 as part of the interdisciplinary SnF Sinergia project Constructing Identity. Visual, Spatial, and Literary Cultures in Lombardy, 14th to 16th at the University of Lausanne , the University of Geneva and the University of Zurich , where he also taught as a lecturer. He did his PhD at the University of Zurich in 2013 with Tristan Weddigen on the subject of seeing spaces. Giusto de 'Menabuoi and the knowledge culture of the Trecento in Padua. With an interdisciplinary focus, this first German monograph on the painter Giusto de 'Menabuoi combines approaches from art history, cultural studies and sociology of knowledge.

After a project on the founding painter Franz von Defregger , he was curatorial assistant at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart from the beginning of 2015 to mid-2017 . Here he was u. a. involved in the exhibitions Albrecht Dürer and Lucas van Leyden. Art and Life around 1500 , Francis Bacon . Invisible rooms as well as the Great State Exhibition The Master of Messkirch. Catholic splendor in the Reformation period. The exhibition Rembrandt's Shadows curated by Scholz . England and Black Art were popularized by audiences and media, including a. in the magazine Der Spiegel, received very positively. At the same time, from 2015 to 2017 he was a lecturer at the Chair of Art Studies at the University of Konstanz, which was occupied by Karin Leonhard .

Since August 1, 2017, Scholz has been division manager and curator of the Older Art History Collections (art before 1900) at the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck. There he was responsible a. a. the redesign and reorganization of the rooms for the Middle Ages and Renaissance and for the first time in 100 years exhibited highlights from the collection of Italian art.

Peter Scholz devotes himself to numerous exhibitions, projects, conferences, lectures and publications of Italian, German, Dutch and English art from different eras.
