Peter Selg

Peter Selg (born August 5, 1963 in Stuttgart-Hedelfingen ), specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, is head of the Ita Wegman Institute for basic anthroposophical research . He teaches medical anthropology and ethics at the University of Witten-Herdecke and at the Alanus University for Art and Society (Alfter near Bonn) and is the author and editor of numerous publications.

Life

Peter Selg graduated from the Robert Bosch-Gymnasium in Wendlingen am Neckar and received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (support for gifted students). After his community service he studied human medicine in Witten-Herdecke, Berlin and Zurich and received his doctorate with a work on the history of ideas on the conception of a human physiology in Rudolf Steiner's work (which later appeared in book form under the title "Vom Logos Menschlicher Physis"). He completed a specialist training in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy and temporarily worked as a senior physician in the psychiatric department for adolescents and young adults at the Herdecke community hospital (under Peter F. Matthiessen).

Later Peter Selg was a research assistant at the Freiburg Institute for Applied Epistemology and Medical Methodology (where he published a work biography of Gerhard Kienle) and at the Medical Section at the Goetheanum. From 2002 to 2006 he was a member of the college of senior physicians at Ita Wegman Clinic Arlesheim. Since then he has headed the Ita Wegman Institute for basic anthroposophical research and teaches in Witten-Herdecke and Alfter. Together with the head of the digital archive of the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial, the Polish historian Krzysztof Antonczyk, he has been holding seminars for students on medical ethics and the medical crimes of National Socialism at the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial since 2009.

Peter Selg's books have been translated into ten languages ​​and form the basis of his international lectures and seminars on the contribution of anthroposophical spiritual science to modern civilization. He is married to the art historian and Slavist Julia Selg; They live with their five children near Freiburg im Breisgau.
