Peter Stein (Semitist)

Peter Stein (* 1970 in Dresden ) is a German Semitist .

Life

After training as a toolmaker , he studied ancient oriental studies , Semitic philology and Protestant theology in Jena and Jerusalem from 1992 to 1998 . In 2002 he received his doctorate in Semitic Philology in Jena. From 2002 to 2010 he worked as a research assistant at the chair for Semitic Philology and Islamic Studies at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where he completed his habilitation in 2009 in Semitic Studies. In 2010 he received a Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation . Since April 2011 he has been teaching as a lecturer in ancient Hebrew and Semitic languages ​​at the Protestant Theological Faculty of the University of Jena and the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Erfurt . In December 2017 he was awarded the title of Extraordinary Professor of Semitic Studies by the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena.

His research includes the languages, scripts and cultures on the Arabian Peninsula in pre-Islamic times, with a focus on Old South Arabic and Aramaic.
