Peter Stiehl

Peter Stiehl (born June 23, 1868 in Mülheim am Rhein , † after 1953) was a German wrestler .

Career

Peter Stiehl grew up in his hometown of Mülheim am Rhein, which was later incorporated into Cologne , and developed into a strong young man. He learned the job of a wheelwright and began wrestling at the age of 20. He joined the Ring- und Stemmclub Mülheim am Rhein , which was later renamed AC Mülheim from 1892 .

In the following years he won many awards in wrestling and weightlifting , mainly in the Rhineland . In 1895 he took part in the second German championships after the establishment of the German Athletics Sports Association from 1891 (DASV v. 1891) in Koblenz . This championship took place in the Greco-Roman style and was held in only one weight class. At this championship, Peter Stiehl, who was nicknamed “Stiehl's Bear”, prevailed against his club mate Willi Hufenstuhl in the final battle. This fight lasted a total of 45 minutes and was won by Peter Stiehl in a duel. He was the second German heavyweight champion after Hubert Schwerger from Cologne .

Peter Stiehl practiced heavy athletics (wrestling and weightlifting) until 1908. He won a total of over 200 prizes. However, exact further results from him are not known. In 1953 Peter Siehl celebrated his 85th birthday. The exact date of his death is not known.
