Peter Suter (architect)

Peter Suter (born May 30, 1914 in Basel ; † November 21, 1998 there ) was a Swiss architect .

Life

Peter Suter was the son of the architect Rudolf Suter and Emilie Suter, née Oeri.

After studying, which he began in 1935 at the Technical University of Munich , Suter graduated from the Technical University of Aachen in 1939 and, after practical work, joined the Suter & Burckhardt office in Basel in 1943 . From 1945 he was a partner in the Suter & Suter office together with his older brother Hans Rudolf . It is best known for its industrial and administrative buildings in Europe and overseas. From 1971 to 1985 he was a member of the board of directors of the architectural firm that was converted into a stock corporation. From 1965 he followed a teaching position for industrial construction at the architecture department of the ETH Zurich and was a co-founder of the International Institute for Industrial Planning (1969–1976) in Vienna .

Peter Suter was married to Elisabeth Franziska Suter-Dürsteler, a collector of ancient Persian antiques, and was also an art collector himself.
