Peter Thorau

Peter Thorau (born September 1, 1949 in Lohr am Main ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1973 to 1978 he studied history and oriental studies at the University of Tübingen . In January 1978 he obtained his master's degree from Heinz Löwe , and in June 1985 his doctorate in Tübingen from Sultan Baibars I of Egypt. A contribution to the history of the Middle East in the 13th century (Heinz Löwe, Heinz Halm ) and the habilitation in February 1996 at the University of Saarland . In July 2002, Saarland University appointed him extraordinary professor for medieval history and oriental studies. From 1978 to 1979 he was a research assistant (University of Tübingen), from 1979 to 1986 research assistant at the Tübingen Atlas of the Middle East , from 1987 to 1992 research assistant ( Bavarian Academy of Sciences ) and since 1993 research assistant at the ( Mainz Academy of Sciences - Regesta Imperii ).

His main research interests are the history of the Crusades, Mamluks, the Ottoman Empire, the history of the Hohenstaufen, Henry VII and the Luxembourg dynasty.
