Peter Tuor

Peter Tuor (born June 19, 1876 in L'Aquila , Abruzzo, † November 1, 1957 in Bern ) was a Swiss lawyer and university professor.

Live and act

Tuor was the son of Jacob Anton Tuor, an emigrated merchant, and Maria Anna geb. Coray. After the early death of his father (1882) Tuor grew up in Laax . He attended high school in Disentis / Mustér and Schwyz and later studied law at the Universities of Freiburg i. Ue. and Vienna .

He was a member of the Academic Comment Association (AKV) Alemannia . In 1903 he received his doctorate. iur. with the work Die Freie von Laax . He then completed his habilitation in Vienna with Moriz Wlassak . From 1905 to 1920 he was a professor of Roman law in Freiburg, where he was rector from 1918 to 1920. As a professor of civil law and the law of obligations , he taught in Geneva from 1920 to 1922 , then in Bern until 1946 , where he was rector in 1944/1945.

Tuor was considered to be an “authority in the field of inheritance law , on which he wrote a 1,100-page commentary from 1912 to 1929. His work The new law was published from 1932 as The Swiss Civil Code, a general textbook »(14th edition, Zurich 2015).

Tuor was involved in Romansh from 1907 to 1927 as editor of the Igl Ischi magazine . In 1908 he translated and commented on the Swiss Civil Code in Romansh and in 1942 the Swiss Criminal Code . He was friends a. with Maurus Carnot and Gion Cahannes .
