Peter Weiss (boxer)

Peter Weiss (born December 16, 1938 in Berlin ) is a former Austrian boxer. He is the son of the boxer Ernst Weiss .

Peter Weiss was Austrian bantamweight champion in 1958, 1959 and 1960, and Austrian featherweight champion in 1963. At the European Championships in 1959 in Lucerne , he lost in the round of 16 against Oleg Grigoryev from the Soviet Union. In 1960 he took part next to Egon Rusch (middleweight), Franz Koschina (welterweight), Rupert König (light welterweight) and Josef Grumser (lightweight) at the 17th Olympic Games in Rome , where he, however, in the third round of the tournament (round of 16) against the Spaniard Alfonso Carvajo resigned.

Also at the European Championships in Moscow in 1963 , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Scot Evan Armstrong. 1964 followed his participation next to Franz Frauenlob (middleweight) and Rupert König (light welterweight) at the 18th Olympic Games in Tokyo , where he lost in the second round of the tournament against Tamar Ben Hassan from Tunisia.

After a career of several years due to professional activities, he started boxing again at the age of 33 and became Austrian lightweight champion in 1971 and Austrian featherweight champion in 1972.

He then became a boxing trainer at the University Sports Institute of the University of Vienna and is the owner of the Hotel Papageno in Vienna .
