Peter and the Test Tube Babies are a punk rock band formed in Peacehaven , England in late 1978 . The classic line-up consisted of Peter Bywaters, Derek "Del Strangefish" Greening, Chris "Trapper" Marchant and Mark "Ogs" Hoggins.

Band history

The band's first release was Elvis Is Dead in 1978 on the sampler The Vaultage Punk Collection . Two years after their founding, they signed a contract with No Future Records for their first releases. Since then, the group has released its phonograms on various labels. 1982 followed with the first (live) album with Pissed and Proud , although Bywaters hates live albums by his own admission.

The band initially played fast punk with undemanding lyrics, but this changed in 1983 with the release of their first studio album The Mating Sounds of South American Frogs . Nonsense lyrics could still be heard here, but the music sounded more sophisticated than before. This development reached its climax with the Soberphobia published in 1986 . Both albums are now considered the band's classics. However, in 1990 the album The Shit Factory marked a low point , with which the band took a stand against the producer trio Stock, Aitken & Waterman , which dominated the British market at the time . What was meant as a joke quickly turned out to be a flop despite a good production, because most of the songs, according to Bywaters, were "just crap".

After there had already been tensions between Hoggins and the other band members during the recording of the follow-up album Cringe, Hoggins finally left the band. After the release of the successor Supermodels , according to Bywaters his favorite album, Marchant also turned his back on the band before the upcoming album tour in 1995. The departure of the rhythm section marked a deep turning point in the band's history, as Bywaters certified both Hoggins and Marchant to be "excellent musicians". In the years that followed, rumors spread that the band had split up. However, the position of drummer has been filled several times since then. After 17 years, bassist Paul "H" Henrickson left the band at the end of 2016 and was replaced by Nick Abnett in early 2017. In the same year the drummer Sam Fuller joined the band.

In August 2006, a remix of the 2005 album A Foot Full of Bullets was released under the title For a Few Bullets More . Thereto had Campino and Olga from Toy Dolls worked. In March 2017, the new lineup with Nick Abnett and Sam Fuller began recording a new album. On the 2017 album Learning English Lesson 2 by Toten Hosen , Peter sings the title The Jinx with Campino .
