The Toy Dolls are a punk band from England . They are considered the first band in the fun punk genre.
history
The Toy Dolls were founded in Sunderland in 1979 . The only remaining founding member is Michael "Olga" Algar (vocals and guitar), born on September 21, 1962 in South Shields, England . In the 1980s they were on Gary Bushell's Strength Thru Oi! -Compilation ( Decca Records ), although they fit more into the funpunk category; however, their concerts are also attended by skinheads . Since then they have also been internationally successful and have completed various tours on different continents.
The Toy Dolls play fast, melodic punk rock - with a high level of virtuosity atypical for the genre, especially the guitar playing by self-taught Algar - paired with high-pitched, croaking vocals and banal-joking lyrics. The band had their greatest success in 1983 with Nellie The Elephant , a funpunk-trimmed version of a nursery rhyme that made it to number 4 in the UK singles charts . Otherwise, the band draws attention to itself mainly through their frequent membership changes: The original line-up lasted just two months.
In 2006 the line-up consisted of Algar, Tommy Goober (own Thomas Woodford Blyth, e-bass ) and The AMAZING Mr. Duncan (own Duncan Redmonds, drums ).
In March 2012 the Toy Dolls released their 12th studio album called The Album After The last One . The The Tour After The Last One tour started in May.
