Petit Gâteau

Petit Gâteau (French for small cake ; plural Petits Gâteaux ) is a dessert and consists of a small chocolate cake , which consists of a crispy crust and a filling of liquid chocolate . Before serving, it is heated in the oven for a few minutes to liquefy the chocolate. A portion of vanilla ice cream is often served with the Petit Gâteau .

The Petit Gâteau was best known in New York City restaurants in 1990 . Today there are different variations of the dessert . Different types of ice cream are served or the cake contains fruit or alcoholic drinks in addition to chocolate.

The English name comes from the French and is called moelleux au chocolat (soft chocolate) in France .
