Petr Hořava (* 1963 in Prostějov ) is a Czech physicist .

life and work

Hořava became known through several essays on string theory and M-theory that he wrote together with Edward Witten . These articles describe a duality between ten-dimensional heterotic E8xE8 strings and 11-dimensional strings. Petr Hořava was less well known for his discovery of the D-branes , which Joseph Polchinski and other physicists described independently in 1989 . He is Professor of Physics at the University of California at Berkeley , where he works on quantum field theory and string theory. Hořava is also a member of the group of theorists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory .

In 2009 Hořava presented a theory of quantum gravity , in which space is separated from time at high energy densities.
