Kaplan studied electrical engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague until 1958 , where he founded Samuels (also: Samuel's Band ), one of the first rock bands in Czechoslovakia. With the group he took part in the 1st Czechoslovak Beat Festival in Prague. At the beginning of 1968 he reactivated the Samuel's Band with his brother Přemek Kaplan and Miki Volek , who took part in the 2nd Czechoslovak Beat Festival and released an EP and an LP at Supraphon .

In 1975 Kaplan performed with the Groš group in the Semafor . With Petr Janda and the group Olympic played evergreens such as Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode and Roll Over Beethoven , which were released on an LP by Supraphon , at a rock'n'roll concert celebration in 1980 . At the concert "30 Years of Rock'n'Roll" by the group Mefisto in 1989 he played guitar alongside musicians such as Pavel Sedláček, Pavel Bobek , Viktor Sodom and Petr Janda. The record was released a year later on the M-Art label.
