Petr Kopta (* 23. October 1965 in Chomutov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech hockey player of 1987-1997 in the hockey Bundesliga and the German Ice Hockey League for the EV Landshut , EC Hedos Munich , the Frankfurt Lions and Schwenninger ERC played . Most recently he was team manager at SERC Wild Wings .
Career
In his home town in Kladno, Petr Kopta learned to play ice hockey. The talented Kopta tried to gain a foothold in North America at a very young age. At age 17, he joined the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League . Here in the highest Canadian junior league with teams around Toronto , he only played 23 games and switched to the Lethbridge Broncos in the Western Hockey League , which is the highest junior league in western Canada.
Shortly before the start of the 1986/87 season, the second division club EC Kassel signed the now 21-year-old Kopta. He played a convincing season, so that he was able to move to the first division for EV Landshut the following season . But the Landshut team around Erich Kühnhackl was still a size too big for Kopta and so he returned to the second division after 24 games and joined the EC Hedos Munich . At that time Munich was one of the up-and-coming clubs and so he was promoted to the Bundesliga with this team in his second season.
This time the leap to first class was successful. After a good season in Munich, he moved to the Frankfurt Lions . There he proved that he can keep up in the top German league. After a year in Frankfurt, he moved to Schwenninger ERC , where after three years in the Bundesliga he was the DEL team captain in his first year . In 1995 he returned to the Frankfurt Lions. He played there in the DEL for another two years before he moved to the Hamburg Crocodiles in the second highest league at the age of 32 , which was then called 1. Liga Nord.
He let his career end in Ravensburg.
In the 05/06 season , Kopta is the sporting director of the SERC Wild Wings and also took over the coaching job at short notice.
