Petra Gentz-Werner

Petra Gentz-Werner (* 1951 in Leipzig ) in publications mostly Petra Werner , is a German biochemist, science historian and author . Until the end of 2015, she worked at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences .

Life

Gentz-Werner grew up in Berlin, she studied biology in Leipzig, graduated as a plant physiologist and did her doctorate in 1980 at the University of Halle in the field of metabolism research (biochemistry). Then she switched to the history of science , in 1990 she completed her habilitation in this subject. Her work on the life and work of the founder of biochemistry Otto Heinrich Warburg was honored in "Nature", among others. From 1999 she became a member of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Center of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. In 1996 and 2003 she made guest residencies at Yale University in the USA.

Gentz-Werner has been writing since her early youth: first poetry, later short stories, literary non-fiction books and novels. She received inspiration from her work on the history of science.
