Petru Dugulescu

Petru "Petrică" Dugulescu (born November 18, 1945 in Chelmac , Arad County , † January 3, 2008 in Timișoara , Timiș County ) was a Romanian clergyman, poet and politician.

Life

Petru Dugulescu attended the pastors' seminar in Bucharest : as a pastor he also wrote Christian poems. For some time, Petru Dugulescu was shadowed by the secret police. Due to the constant surveillance, he temporarily stopped preaching. In September 1985, a bus drove into his moving car and broken bones. In Dugulescu's autobiography "Ei mi-au programat moartea" (translated into English under the title "Repenters") details of these events from Dugulescu's point of view appeared.

Petru Dugulescu published his last book "Democrație și Persecuție" on December 20, 2007. On January 3, 2008, he died of a heart attack.

Political commitment

Dugulescu campaigned for human rights, religious affairs and national minorities and was the founder and president of the charity foundation Jesus the Hope of Romania and Onesimus Brothers House for street children in Timișoara.

Dugulusecu was one of the organizers of the protests in Timișoara in 1989 during the Romanian Revolution in 1989 . As a member of the PNȚ , he was a member of the Romanian parliament from 1992 to 2000.
