Petruccio Ubaldini

Petruccio Ubaldini (* around 1524 in Florence ; † around 1600) was a calligrapher , miniator and scholar.

Ubaldini came to England in 1545 and entered royal service there. He traveled the continent on official order. Under the reign of Edward VI. he returned to England and took part in the Scottish campaign in 1549 under Sir James Crofts, the governor of Haddington. Ubaldini stayed in Venice in 1552 and was back in England from 1562. He sent New Year's gifts to the Queen of England several times: 1578/1579 it was an Italian book with paintings advivum and the Metamorphoses of Ovid . 1585/1586 a family tree and 1588/1589 a book covered with vellum in Italian .

  • In 1551 he probably wrote the Relatione delle cose del Regno d'Inghilterra for the Signoria in Venice . National Library Vienna: Foscarini MSS ,; cod. 184, no. 6626c 336-466
  • He wrote and illustrated, among other things: Psalms of David. with coat of arms of the Earl of Arundel, inscribed at the end: Petruccius Ubaldinus Florentinus Henrico comiti Arundellio Mæcenati suo, scribebat Londini MD LXV (Brit. Mus., Roy. MSS., 2 B. IX); Parchment ribbon with reproductions of quotations from the Bible and books by classical authors in the Gorhambury Gallery near St. Albans, written on behalf of Sir Nicolas Bacon as a gift for Lady Lumley.
