Petrus Georg Bartels

Petrus Georg Bartels (born February 19, 1832 in Emden , † October 21, 1907 in Aurich ) was a German Reformed theologian, consistorial councilor and general superintendent of Aurich.

Life

Bartels was the son of a master tailor. After graduating from high school in 1852, he studied Protestant theology at the University of Göttingen. During his studies he became a member of the Schwarzburgbund - student association Burschenschaft Germania Göttingen . In 1857 he became pastor in Mitling-Mark , in 1862 in Pilsum , in 1865 in Emden . In 1866 he was commissioned by King George V to the General Superintendent and the consistory in Aurich appointed. At the same time, until his own pastor was appointed (1886), he was the pastor of the Reformed community in Aurich , which had belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Province of Hanover since 1882 . In 1903 he retired.

In addition, Bartels published numerous articles on East Frisian history. He played a major role in the founding of the yearbook of the "Society for Fine Art and Patriotic Antiquities", for which he also wrote several articles. The society later awarded him honorary membership.

Bartel's estate and library came to the Aurich State Archives before his death (today: Lower Saxony State Archives (Aurich location)).
