Petrus Schulz

Petrus Schulz (born July 17, 1808 in Regensburg ; † April 2, 1871 there ) was a German violin maker .

Life

At a young age, Petrus Schulz learned violin making from the master Joseph Fischer (1768–1834) from Füssen . After years of traveling, which took him to the Netherlands, he took over the workshop of his master in 1834. He was a well-respected master violin maker of the 19th century in southern Germany. He worked all his life in Regensburg, where he built violins and guitars based on Italian models. In 1855, 16-year-old Franz Xaver Kerschensteiner did an apprenticeship with him for four years and then went hiking. On July 18, 1865, he married Euphrosina, his master's daughter, and became a partner in the business.
