Petrus Stenbeke

Petrus Stenbeke , also: Steenbeke, Steynbeke (* before 1397, † after 1421) was the founding rector of the University of Rostock .

Life

Nothing is known about its origin. His surname can be found quite widely in northern Germany during his lifetime. In the summer of 1397 Stenbeke enrolled at the University of Erfurt , where he paid an enrollment fee of 12 groschen. This shows that he must have come from a well-respected family. Presumably he himself came from the Rostock area.

In Erfurt he seems to have acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in the seven liberal arts . It is possible that he acquired the Baccalaureat of Artes Liberalis at the University of Prague on December 15, 1397 . In pursuit of theological studies, he also acquired the lowest theological degree of a Baccalaureus formatus and as such held the rectorate of the Erfurt University in the winter semester 1415/16.

He then followed a large number of Erfurt doctors and masters at the newly founded University of Rostock . On November 12, 1419 he was by the bishop of Schwerin Heinrich III. Appointed by Wangelin , the abbot of the Doberan monastery Hermann Bokholt , the Rostock archdeacon Johannes Meynesti , the pastor of St. Marien in Rostock Nikolaus Türkow and the Rostock mayor Heinrich Katzow as their founding rector. As such, he was the first to be entered in the Rostock registry. In the winter semester 1420-1421 he administered the deanery of the philosophical faculty.
