Peter von Mladoniowitz (Latin Petrus de Mladoniovicz ; Czech Petr z Mladoňovic also z Mladeňovic ; * around 1390 in Mladoňovice , Moravia ; † February 7, 1451 ) was a preacher and student of the Bohemian reformer Jan Hus . 1438/39 he was rector of the Charles University in Prague .

Life

Peter von Mladoniowitz studied at the Charles University in Prague, where he obtained a baccalaureus in 1409. In 1411 he was among the first to receive a scholarship from the reform-oriented Hedwig College and became a student of Jan Hus. On his trip to the Council of Constance in 1414, he assumed the function of a clerk in the service of one of the two university representatives, the knight Jan von Chlum . He stayed in Konstanz during the entire trial against Hus, taking care of the correspondence, collecting documents and drawing up minutes. He also drafted a protest pamphlet defending the teaching of Jan Hus and signed by 15 Bohemian and Polish nobles. After his return he wrote a report on the year of trial and the reformer's death by fire.

In 1416 he received his master's degree from the University of Prague. Ordained a priest around 1420, he was a preacher at St. Michael's Church in Prague's old town from 1420/1421 . In addition, he continued to work as a master's degree at the university, where he was elected dean in 1426. During the time of the Hussite movement he took part in numerous discussions and religious disputes in which he emerged as an opponent of the Taborites . He belonged to the moderate wing of the Utraquists under the leadership of Christian von Prachatitz . In a meeting in December 1420 he read 72 false teachings of the Taborites. A year later he was almost killed when the Hussites withdrew near Kuttenberg . With the moderate Hussites he also appeared against Jan Želivský in 1422 and tried to limit his influence with his colleagues. After a dispute with Jan Rokycana , he was expelled from Prague and lived in exile in Batelov from 1427 to 1438. In 1438 he accepted a pastor's position at St. Michaels Church. In 1440 he held the post of rector of Charles University. In 1448 he was mentioned as a participant in the Council of Basel .
