Palatinate Court
The Palatinate Court or the Palatinate Council with its seat in St. Gallen was an appeal court of the St. Gallen monastery state .
The Palatinate Court was the last appellate instance in civil and administrative matters for the offices of the old landscape (with the exception of the Wileramt ) and the prince-abbot lower courts in the Rhine Valley and in Thurgau . It has been mentioned in a document since the 14th century. The institution, usually referred to as the Palatinate Council from 1500 to the end of the Ancien Régime , has hardly been researched.
Although the Hofgericht not identical, the Palatinate court came by virtue of his responsibility for land title loans sometimes the function of a feudal Court to. The Palatinate Council also served as an administrative authority and was composed of the dean , the governor , three other conventuals and nine secular officials. The Wileramt had its own Palatinate Council chaired by the governor there.
